<br />
<br />
The method I use for this blog of looking back at the various time travel television programmes and films is quite random. It's not a start with the A's and work my way to Zed it's more like something crops up which fits in with a thought lets write about it.<br />
<br />
That thought was triggered by a blog post I found <b><a href="https://yourtimeormine.blogspot.com/2018/07/god-as-time-traveller.html" target="_blank">God as a time traveller</a> </b>in which they asked if god would or could time travel? I guess first of all you have to get around the question. Is there a God? But hey how long do you want this blog post to be?<br />
<br />
I would have thought if there is such a thing as a God, then that God would know everything. So if time travel were possible then they would be able to do it. <i>No need to pontificate on the subject just a simple statement.</i><br />
<br />
Now, in Quantum Leap (and I do have it on my bucket list to watch all 97 episodes in a Quantum Leap fest) you do have what I class as plausible time travel. Dr Sam Beckett jumps into the bodies of folks from the past, thus getting around all the molecules travelling through space and time theorems. His actions play along with the <a href="https://yourtimeormine.blogspot.com/2018/04/the-grandfather-paradox.html" target="_blank"><b>Grandfather Paradox</b></a> idea. With the changes which happen are ones that need to be done and altar a future to what it needed to be, or as they know it to be.<br />
<br />
In the Lee Harvey Oswald episode he only kills JFK not his wife as well, in the reality he jumps in to the wife dies as well but he doesn't kill her so this keeps the time line going as they know it to be as we all know it be in fact.<br />
<br />
Now big spoiler alert. if you didn't already know, in the last episode he sees God to be told he can jump home when ever he wants but he can continue correcting the mistakes which have happened through out history.<br />
<br />
Now that does beg the more a theological question of God, as they do no wrong, have they allowed these mistakes to happen? Normally this happens to teach a person a lesson, or are they fallible? They make mistakes and they are not as great as you think God to be.<br />
<br />
Quantum Leap for me it is one of the top 5 time travel shows along with <a href="https://yourtimeormine.blogspot.com/2018/04/sliders.html" target="_blank"><b>Sliders</b></a> but can you really bring shows like these back or would you sully your memories of them, are they of an age?<br />
<br />
As always your thoughts are welcome, feel free to comment.<br />

It is imperative that as a time traveller you don’t do anything that could alter the past. Even our ancestors becoming aware of your very presence could be enough to cause irreparable damage to the space time continuum.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; box-sizing: border-box; font-family: Lato, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
I have previously spoken about the possibility of a Time Travel Tourism Industry (<a href="https://practicejack.wordpress.com/2017/12/11/a-time-travelling-holiday/" style="border: 0px; box-sizing: border-box; color: #81699b; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; text-decoration-line: none; transition: all 0.3s ease-in-out; vertical-align: baseline;">here</a>). It’s such a dangerous idea though <span style="border: 0px; box-sizing: border-box; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-weight: 700; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">(take note Richard Branston Pickle).</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; box-sizing: border-box; font-family: Lato, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
If you go on holiday it makes sense to be aware of the Laws, customs, etiquette and traditions of that country. It makes your visit more enjoyable and helps avoid any unfortunate brushes with the law.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; box-sizing: border-box; font-family: Lato, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Did you know, for example, that It is illegal to wear any camo in Barbados including clothing or any item containing camouflage material?</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; box-sizing: border-box; font-family: Lato, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
You would need to be a historian fully up to speed with the etiquette and custom of the period to avoid a social faux pas. And this wouldn’t just be embarrassing. There could be serious consequences to you for dropping a clanger here. For example, if you were in the Middle ages this could range from ending up in the stocks to a lengthy prison time (and prison time during this period would probably be a death sentence due to the unhygienic conditions). Hell, if you aren’t careful you could end up in a noose. And for god’s sake do whatever you can to avoid being accused of being a witch.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; box-sizing: border-box; font-family: Lato, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
A Time Traveller hoping to blend in and avoid any trouble would need to consider what s/he wore, Would the clothing be appropriate to the time period? Are there any legal issues around the wearing of certain colours? The English sumptuary acts of 1463 go into explicit detail about clothing items which were reserved for those below the king’s status, putting restrictions on coat length and shoe height. In this legislation, the intention was to prevent men from acting as if they were from a higher class by way of how they dressed. The laws specifically stated that a man was to dress within the status in which he was born.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; box-sizing: border-box; font-family: Lato, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Time Travellers would also need to consider whether there are any restrictions on places s/he hoped to visit i.e. Curfews, Gender restrictions (can women attend)? They would need to be aware of any religious holidays and the impact these would have on their plans.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; box-sizing: border-box; font-family: Lato, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
They would also need to think about who s/he spoke to and how s/he did so, Are there any restrictions on social interaction, (between social classes or genders for example)? Most Medieval people were peasants, over 90%, but the divide between peasants and nobility was very clear-cut. Clergy were also an important part of the social order during the Middle Ages, though they were not necessarily considered a separate class.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; box-sizing: border-box; font-family: Lato, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Bloody hell, this Time Travel Tourism thing is sounding like it will be more trouble than its worth.</div>

I love Time Travel stories, especially when they involve convoluted paradoxes, and changes made in the past that affect the present. Ray Bradbury’s<a href="https://www.gradesaver.com/ray-bradbury-short-stories/study-guide/summary-a-sound-of-thunder" style="-webkit-font-smoothing: antialiased; border-bottom: 1px solid rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.2); box-sizing: border-box; color: #66523c; outline: none; text-decoration-line: none; transition: all 0.1s ease-in-out;"> “Sound of Thunder”</a> is the quintessential time travel story, about a man that travels back in time to hunt dinosaurs, steps off the path and kills a butterfly, and then travels back to the present and finds changes, big and small all from a dead butterfly 66 million years ago.</div>
<div style="-webkit-font-smoothing: antialiased; background-color: #f1f1f1; border: 0px; box-sizing: border-box; color: #111111; font-family: "Alegreya Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 17px; line-height: 28.9px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
My granddaughter and I watch the current TV show “Timeless” together, which is about a group that chases a rogue time traveler, trying to keep him from changing the past. As they return at the end of each show, little things have changed in the present due to their interacting with the past.</div>
<div style="-webkit-font-smoothing: antialiased; background-color: #f1f1f1; border: 0px; box-sizing: border-box; color: #111111; font-family: "Alegreya Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 17px; line-height: 28.9px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
I often wonder if God can travel in time. It would explain how he can know the future! There is not a lot written in LDS theology about God and time. Going back over a hundred years, both Orson Pratt and B. H. Roberts affirmed that God is in time, and has a past, present and future. Pratt wrote: “The true God exists both in time and space. He has extension, and form, and dimensions, as well as man. He occupies space; has a body, parts, and passions; can go from place to place—can eat, drink, and talk, as well as man.” [1] Roberts said that God the son “became man,” that there was for him a “before and after,” and that “here there is a succession of time with God—a before and after; here is being and becoming.”[2]</div>
<div style="-webkit-font-smoothing: antialiased; background-color: #f1f1f1; border: 0px; box-sizing: border-box; color: #111111; font-family: "Alegreya Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 17px; line-height: 28.9px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
More recently Apostle Neal A. Maxwell spoke of a different position: “Once the believer acknowledges that the past, present, and future are before God <em style="-webkit-font-smoothing: antialiased; border: 0px; box-sizing: border-box; font-family: inherit; line-height: 1; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">simultaneously</em>—even though we do not understand how, then the doctrine of fore-ordination may be seen somewhat more clearly” (emphasis in original).[3] Elder Maxwell also suggested that God could not know what is in our future unless he is outside of time and knows all things simultaneously, so that God actually <em style="-webkit-font-smoothing: antialiased; border: 0px; box-sizing: border-box; font-family: inherit; line-height: 1; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">sees</em> rather than <em style="-webkit-font-smoothing: antialiased; border: 0px; box-sizing: border-box; font-family: inherit; line-height: 1; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">foresees</em> the future and is never surprised by what happens, although we often are. [4]</div>
<div style="-webkit-font-smoothing: antialiased; background-color: #f1f1f1; border: 0px; box-sizing: border-box; color: #111111; font-family: "Alegreya Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 17px; line-height: 28.9px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
So what do you think? Is God outside of time, and able to travel to and fro through the eons? Can he drop in on any time in history, or is he governed by time like us mortals, with a before, present and future?</div>
<div style="-webkit-font-smoothing: antialiased; background-color: #f1f1f1; border: 0px; box-sizing: border-box; color: #111111; font-family: "Alegreya Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 17px; line-height: 28.9px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">

Conspiracy theorists now believe that billionaire tycoon Donald Trump is poised to use the highest position on the planet to stop the impending nuclear war with ISIS terror-nuts.</div>
<div style="font-size: 14px; line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
Donald Trump, who has supposedly already seen a future ravaged by the destruction of a nuclear conflict, is detirmined to avert the oncoming apocalypse at whatever cost.</div>
<div style="font-size: 14px; line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
The conspiracy theory, which recently appeared on 4chan online forums, claims to be one of the most compelling explanations for Trump's shock victory at the election last year.</div>

<div style="font-size: 14px; line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
The legend-tellers suggest that Donald’s uncle John George Trump, who was a very well-known scientist and inventor, oversaw the examination of famous engineer Nikola Tesla’s notes after his death.</div>
<div style="font-size: 14px; line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
Serbian-born Tesla moved to the US in 1891 was famed for his reputation as a “mad scientist”.</div>
<div style="font-size: 14px; line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
Tesla was also well-known in his later years for exploring theoretical subjects, and even made very early pronouncements into the possibility of wireless connectivity.</div>
<div style="font-size: 14px; line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
He apparently looked into fantastic theories such as free energy, antigravity, invisibility, and most importantly time travel.</div>

John G. Trump spent a lot of time with his nephew Donald before he died in 1985.</div>
<div style="font-size: 14px; line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
In interviews Donald Trump regularly brought up his “uncle John” and references his warning over nuclear weapons and the damage they may cause.</div>
<div style="font-size: 14px; line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
During one such interview he cryptically said: “My uncle used to tell me about nuclear before nuclear was nuclear”.</div>

<div style="font-size: 14px; line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
Trump told the Times that his uncle “would tell me many years ago about the power of weapons someday, that the destructive force of these weapons would be so massive, that it’s going to be a scary world.”</div>

----<br />
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 14.04px;"><br /></span>
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 14.04px;">A paranormal researcher said he's the first person to ever discover a time warp, and that he found it on the outskirts of Las Vegas. Joshua Warren has been measuring the rate of time all over Southern Nevada, and he said, last week he found that time had slowed down.</span><br />
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 14.04px; margin-bottom: 12px; margin-top: 12px; padding: 0px;">
He said he measured multiple places between Las Vegas and Area 51, but the only place he got a reading was in the desert just north of the city between I-15 and Route 93.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 14.04px; margin-bottom: 12px; margin-top: 12px; padding: 0px;">
“The weird thing, the real holy grail here, was what we picked up with this brand-new piece of technology,” Warren said.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 14.04px; margin-bottom: 12px; margin-top: 12px; padding: 0px;">
The technology he’s referring to was the DT Meter, which stands for differential time rate meter. It was recently invented by a Silicon Valley engineer, Ron Heath. It's connected to a 100-foot cable with a sensor on the end that sends back a signal.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 14.04px; margin-bottom: 12px; margin-top: 12px; padding: 0px;">
“That signal is always supposed to travel at the same rate of time at any particular place. The only way that could change is if a black hole approached earth or something like that, which is never supposed to happen,” Warren said. “At this spot, on June 18 of 2018, I actually measured for the first and only time, time itself slowing down for 20 microseconds.”</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 14.04px; margin-bottom: 12px; margin-top: 12px; padding: 0px;">
Warren said that should not happen, according to the laws of physics.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 14.04px; margin-bottom: 12px; margin-top: 12px; padding: 0px;">
“That shouldn’t happen unless there is some kind of unknown technology being tested nearby that would influence the environment, or if there are naturally places around planet earth that actually sort of flicker once in a while, that warp a little bit,” Warren said.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 14.04px; margin-bottom: 12px; margin-top: 12px; padding: 0px;">
He said where this happened brings up even more questions.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 14.04px; margin-bottom: 12px; margin-top: 12px; padding: 0px;">
“I think it's really interesting when you consider that this site where we got this reading, showing this time anomaly, also happens to be one of the most popular UFO hotspots in the area,” Warren said.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 14.04px; margin-bottom: 12px; margin-top: 12px; padding: 0px;">
He said his research is just beginning.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 14.04px; margin-bottom: 12px; margin-top: 12px; padding: 0px;">
“The big question at this point is not whether or not we have these anomalies, but what's causing them? Is this something natural that gives us a window a gateway into another world or another level of reality? Or is this the byproduct of some kind of weird technology, be it something secret and man-made or something that's extraterrestrial?” Warren said.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 14.04px; margin-bottom: 12px; margin-top: 12px; padding: 0px;">
He said he plans to continue measuring time rate around Las Vegas to see if any pattern can be deciphered.</div>

In 1985 one of the most infamous science fiction movies premiered. It has been referenced in movies such as “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure” (1989), “The Polar Express” (2004) and “Ready Player One” (2018). I am talking about “Back to the Future”. If you have not watched it, that’s shocking, but to give a short synopsis, teen Marty McFly (Michael J Fox) and eccentric older scientist Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) travel from 1985 to 1955 in a modified DeLorean DMC-12. Since seeing this movie, I have been interested in backward time travel.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #383838; font-family: "Noto Serif", serif; font-size: 19px; margin-bottom: 0.875em;">
<img alt="Philosophy_Blog_3A_Back_to_the_Future" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-23" data-attachment-id="23" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-description="" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"0","credit":"","camera":"","caption":"","created_timestamp":"0","copyright":"","focal_length":"0","iso":"0","shutter_speed":"0","title":"","orientation":"0"}" data-image-title="Philosophy_Blog_3A_Back_to_the_Future" data-large-file="https://cataphilosophy.files.wordpress.com/2018/06/philosophy_blog_3a_back_to_the_future.png?w=1100?w=300" data-medium-file="https://cataphilosophy.files.wordpress.com/2018/06/philosophy_blog_3a_back_to_the_future.png?w=1100?w=300" data-orig-file="https://cataphilosophy.files.wordpress.com/2018/06/philosophy_blog_3a_back_to_the_future.png?w=1100" data-orig-size="300,137" data-permalink="https://cataphilosophy.wordpress.com/2018/06/26/the-black-time-travelers-guide-to-the-united-states-of-america/philosophy_blog_3a_back_to_the_future/" sizes="(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" src="https://cataphilosophy.files.wordpress.com/2018/06/philosophy_blog_3a_back_to_the_future.png?w=1100" srcset="https://cataphilosophy.files.wordpress.com/2018/06/philosophy_blog_3a_back_to_the_future.png 300w, https://cataphilosophy.files.wordpress.com/2018/06/philosophy_blog_3a_back_to_the_future.png?w=150 150w" style="border-radius: 3px; border: 0px; height: auto; max-width: 100%; vertical-align: middle;" />In time travel movies, there is never a shortage of time periods that people travel to. In the “Back to the Future” franchise, Marty McFly and Doc Brown travel to 1955, 2015 and 1885 in each of the respective movies. In the cult classic “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure”, Bill and Ted travel to 1805, 1879, 410 BC, and several other times all within one movie. In watching several time travel movies, I have learned one thing.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #383838; font-family: "Noto Serif", serif; font-size: 19px; margin-bottom: 0.875em;">
DON’T GO TO THE PAST.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #383838; font-family: "Noto Serif", serif; font-size: 19px; margin-bottom: 0.875em;">
To be more accurate, I must say to not go into the past unless you are a white male. This trope is referred to as No Equal Opportunity Time Travel for more obvious reasons. Backward Time Travel does not favor everyone equally. Comedian Louis C.K. says in one of his skits <em>“Here’s how great it is to be white — I can get into a time machine and go to any time and it would be fuckin’ awesome when I get there! That is exclusively a white privilege! Black people can’t fuck with time machines. A black guy in a time machine is like, ‘Hey anything before 1980, no thank you, I don’t wanna go.'”</em><em> This comedically explains the problem with time travel for people who are not white.</em></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #383838; font-family: "Noto Serif", serif; font-size: 19px; margin-bottom: 0.875em;">
There are a few ways to demonstrate why I believe backward time travel to be the wrong idea for people of color. The first demonstration is through more propositional logic. Let us begin.</div>
<ol style="background-color: white; color: #383838; font-family: "Noto Serif", serif; font-size: 19px; list-style-position: outside; margin: 0px 0px 1.75em 2em; padding: 0px;">
<li style="margin-top: 0.4375em;">You are a person of color.</li>
<li style="margin-top: 0.4375em;">If you are a person of color, laws are more strictly enforced.</li>
<li style="margin-top: 0.4375em;">In the past, there were more oppressive laws.</li>
<li style="margin-top: 0.4375em;">No one wants to be subject to the more oppressive law.</li>
<li style="margin-top: 0.4375em;">Therefore, no person of color should not want to go to the past.</li>

<div style="background-color: white; color: #383838; font-family: "Noto Serif", serif; font-size: 19px; margin-bottom: 0.875em;">
The second demonstration is from a historical perspective. I will be expanding upon the third premise of the argument above. In the past, there were more oppressive laws. No one can deny the past had oppressive laws for people of color. We can look at the laws that targeted the black community. We had legal slavery. That should be enough, but people may argue that we abolished slavery in 1863 with the Emancipation Proclamation and with the 13<span style="bottom: 1ex; font-size: 14.25px; height: 0px; line-height: 0; position: relative; top: -0.5em; vertical-align: baseline;">th</span> Amendment. While we “ended” slavery, there were still oppressive laws across the United States for black people. We can look at the Jim Crow Laws, and how 14-year-old Emmett Till (pictured above) was lynched for supposedly whistling at a white woman. She later admitted to not doing it, but that doesn’t change the facts. Rest In Power, Emmett Till. We can look at segregation of schools, and how 101 politicians signed the Southern Manifesto to combat Brown vs. Board of Education. We can look at the War on Drugs, and how marijuana is a Schedule 1 drug while Cocaine and Meth are both Schedule 2 drugs.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #383838; font-family: "Noto Serif", serif; font-size: 19px; margin-bottom: 0.875em;">
Now to provide a little more context, it is a bad idea for anyone who is not white to travel to the past. We tend to think of the past as this interesting place, which it is. Just because it is interesting doesn’t mean that you should go there. When we look at the history of the queer community, we see their inability to express themselves to the point where police officers would raid gay bars. When we look at the Latinx community, we see a history of oppression, stolen land, forced sterilization and anti-immigration. When we look at the Native American community, we see a history of erasure, oppression, stolen land and presidents who took honor in killing them. When we look at the Asian community, we see the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882, forced Japanese internment during WW2 and the aftermath of it. There is no good reason to subject yourself to living in the past.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #383838; font-family: "Noto Serif", serif; font-size: 19px; margin-bottom: 0.875em;">
So to all of the black children who want to time travel, I recommend you pick up an accurate history textbook. That should convince you that the only place you want to travel to is towards progress.</div>

Timepieces such as watches and clocks are used to measure time, so how do I measure the success of this blog? By measuring ourselves against others I would suggest, but who do we choose?<br />
<br />
I can think of no better way to measure this blogs success, than by measuring it against UK political party websites. A re run of an old UK General Election broadcast does quite strangely puts you into the shoes of the time traveller. You know the result, which those being interviewed don't. You also know what happened in the following years and so can measure what they say and what they did from your futuristic position.<br />
<br />
So it seemed quite apt to use the UK political parties as a measuring stick, currently we languish in the NO DATA section as of yet, we are still to make our mark, but we are not alone as The NHA Party website shares our fate according to Alexa. It will be interesting to see how popular we can make this blog.<br />
<br />
Prepare yourselves for government, my friends.<br />

<br />
Now please note how I have wrote in the header "helps fight depression", no mention of cures, As the two cartoons which I have found to go along with this piece explain more than any words I can write. It is no good running away, as you only take yourself with you and as explained below it is not always external factors which depress you, it can simply be yourself.<br />
<br />
After reading the above statement you may feel even worse, well don't. To know the problem is to know how to tackle the problem. I do from time to time get depressed and I can only share with you what works for me. It may or may not work for you but if one person can gain from it, then that is one less depressed person out there.<br />
<br />
Theorising about time travel, so how does that help? <a href="https://yourtimeormine.blogspot.com/2018/06/a-breakup-and-time-machine.html" target="_blank"><b>Break up and the time machine</b></a> is a fantastic piece I found on my travels a person reflecting on which relationship they would go back in time to fix. But each came with it's own dilemma. This can also be the same for anything in your life you may wish to fix. If only I had done this. If I could go back and tell myself this bit of advice things coulda/woulda been different. Those life experiences though are what grow you as an individual, it helps in later life hopefully not to make the same mistake again.<br />
<br />
If I was to go back in time, where would I go? Each option or data point would change where I am now. Happily married and as sane a life as you can ever expect in this crazy world. Even going back to my very low points and saying "Hey, I am you from the future, everything turns out grand" What would that do? Would it stop me from doing or having the interactions I did which resulted in where I am today. Most probably it would.<br />
<br />
So how does theorising about time travel help. Well for one it gets your brain thinking, I know when I do get down, I feel as though I have gone into a similar situation as a broken computer of "safe mode" You are a hollow shell of a person. Also it gives your mind something else to think about rather than what may be depressing you. Now you do have to avoid the self pity, and "If I could turn back time" (I had Cher in my head then) scenario. Looking back should help the present. It should indeed help you feel good about where you are now. Things could be worse.<br />
<br />
All of this sounds harsh, but hey I have been there, I have wallowed like the pig of unhappiness in my mud of misery. "Woe is me, oh no now I am muddy, and roll around in it some more" Break that cycle, get thinking about other things. Look forward to the future. Which indeed is my next subject, how just about any person who plans for the future is a time traveller as well, from gardening to DIY you all time travel to envision what you are going to do.<br />
<br />
I know this is a ramble, and I would love to read your thoughts in the comments section. <b><a href="https://yourtimeormine.blogspot.com/2018/06/all-my-readers-can-have-experience-of.html" target="_blank">All my readers are time travellers</a> </b>as my last blog post informs you.. The future can be bright, and you can learn from the past.<br />

It has just been good fortune rather than planning that I write this blog post on what is the summer solstice today. I am sure there has been the usual gathering of folks as there have been down through the ages to watch the sunrise on what will be the longest day of the year. People have written plenty about any significance they wish to put upon the day, the site and it's whole meaning. But one thing they all experience through the ages is being in touching distance of those stones, which have stood for thousands of years. Imagine all the people through the ages who have touched those stones, if each person left a message it would be like time travelling to that exact point they are at as they write their words for you to see in the future.<br />
<br />
Which is the main premise of this post, sharing a singular thought. At this point I am sitting on my red dining chair. I am not one for office chairs, even though I sit in one all day for my job. I actually sit on this particular chair side saddle. the back rest is to my right hand side, no support given to my back. All those orthopaedics amongst you will be suggesting the bad backs I will get with having no proper support. But I do what is comfortable for me, and side saddle on a dining chair is my thing.<br />
<br />
Before coming onto the computer I went through the morning routine. Making a coffee for my wife, and whilst waiting for the kettle to boil I looked out of the kitchen window, to see this one particular blackbird getting one of his five a day. I wouldn't mind but I had grown the strawberries for my wife, and here is this cheeky blackbird pecking away at the ripest of the strawberries available. If only they had more of an interest in the slugs who were feasting on the runner beans. "click" kettles ready, coffees made, take the coffee upstairs to my wife.<br />
<br />
So you have an insight to where I am now, you know how I sit, you have an idea of the strawberry plants and runner beans outside. It's not in HD and you may well all have your own versions of the garden outside in your minds eye. But the dining chair can not be anything but red, as that is the colour I informed it to be, and the back is to my right hand side, as this is also information I have given you. That pesky bird is a "blackbird".<br />
<br />
We have a connection, wherever you maybe, what ever time in the future you may be reading this. You will have those items in your head, and a vision of my environment at the moment. Is this time travel? Well in a way we have made that connection. If you leave a comment, I will in the future be able to see at that moment you read this post what you thought in response, maybe you would like to give an idea of the environment around you, so I and anyone else reading your comment can make that same link, putting context to your thoughts and visualising where you are.<br />
<br />
Happy time travelling.Retire At 50http://www.blogger.com/profile/18122761212340153767noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7041402779825021443.post-45032911774396305972018-06-19T21:35:00.000+01:002018-06-20T08:07:48.887+01:00Religion versus the concept of time travel.<img alt="Image result for time travel religion cartoon" src="http://wp.patheos.com.s3.amazonaws.com/blogs/exploringourmatrix/files/2013/09/Resurrection-Explained-Doctor-Who-T-Shirt.jpg" /><br />
<br />
In running this blog, I won't be asking for your money, I won't be asking for you to join my cult (I don't have one by the way) I won't ask you to follow any rules or make any sacrifices, fast at certain times of the year and I don't care if you take my name in vain. All I do ask is, if like me, you have an interest in the concept of time travel, then come share your thoughts in the comments section.<br />
<br />
I bring this subject up due to some of the reactions I have had. Either from conversations in real life or from comments on the internet. I may as well have wrote "loon" across my forehead in biro, and run naked around the local supermarket. Yet if I declare a devotion to a supreme being and said I am now following the faith (insert religion here) and will abide by those laws and customs I would have found a sympathetic ear, even from the non believers.<br />
<br />
Now as time travel enthusiasts go, we do have a merry band. A lot of them seem to want to promote books which they have written. A few have it as a discreet interest, but not many folks seem to want to come out of the TARDIS in regards to this.<br />
<br />
But it is the conversation it brings up. Once you get passed the "IT DOESN'T BLOODY EXIST" attitude. You then say well "What if it did?" Surely it is a harmless hobby to theorise. What if you could go backwaed or forward in time? What would you do? What would you like to see? What would be it's consequences? Question after question, all pertaining to you being alive to enjoy the experience as well, not what happens to my soul when I die?<br />
<br />
So if you like discussing questions of time travel, then leave a comment. Lets make a stand against those who are quite happy to follow an imaginary friend but not discuss the possibilities of travelling through differing times.Retire At 50http://www.blogger.com/profile/18122761212340153767noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7041402779825021443.post-24771095282248520032018-06-18T23:03:00.000+01:002018-06-18T23:03:15.471+01:00Meet the author (Leena Maria -Nephilim Quest-, Space Witches series and Mummific books )<div style="background-color: white; color: #212121; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif, serif, EmojiFont; font-size: 13px;">

I started putting stories on paper even before I could write. I was about three years of age, and my mother and I were walking in the park of Turku Cathedral here in Finland (this almost 800-year-old cathedral has a role in my time travel series Nephilim Quest). A police horse approached and my mother told me later I was half way climbing up its leg by the time she managed to come to the rescue (mine or the horse’s, I’m not quite sure). She taught me to give candy to the horse from the palm of my hand and I still remember how soft the horse’s lips were. When we came home, I took my crayons and drew a cartoon story of a a young horse who had to leave its parents and I cried buckets while doing it. I still remember drawing the story so it really had a great impact in my mind. (Actually I painted horses for years and had my paintings exhibited both home and abroad).</div>
<div class="x_ydpca2ca25fMsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="x_ydpca2ca25fMsoNormal">
I went to a kindergarten and there learned to read on my own – and started writing my own stories. Horse- and fairy stories to begin with. Of course in the beginning I was writing similar plots that I had read from books (and I read lots of them – a library bus came once a week to where we lived, and I usually tottered home with such a high pile of books I could barely see my way from behind it). With time I began to develop a style of my own.</div>
<div class="x_ydpca2ca25fMsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="x_ydpca2ca25fMsoNormal">
History was my thing from the very beginning. You can still see that in my books - they all have the same theme in common – ancient Egypt. People usually ask why ancient Egypt was the thing that I loved (and love) the most, and I never really had a clear answer. I just knew that whenever I saw anything related to ancient Egypt, I was drawn to it. Maybe it had something to do with storytelling. I love to tell stories – and ancient Egypt was full of them. (Now of course pictures of the golden treasures of pharaohs piqued my interest too).</div>
<div class="x_ydpca2ca25fMsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="x_ydpca2ca25fMsoNormal">
I tried to write “serious” stories but somehow the fantasy element always found its way into my books. So I sort of gave up – fantasy it is. Maybe I manage to write an “ordinary” novel some day…</div>
<div class="x_ydpca2ca25fMsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="x_ydpca2ca25fMsoNormal">
I plan my storylines in advance, and usually manage to keep up with my plans about half way through the writing. Then the characters take over and I find myself chasing them so I could bring them back to order and direct them to my planned end of the book. I really wish they would behave, but often I find the story developed into a more interesting direction as a result of them bolting.</div>
<div class="x_ydpca2ca25fMsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="x_ydpca2ca25fMsoNormal">
I have enjoyed writing all my books – Nephilim Quest –series gave me a chance to develop a long storyline that goes through several books. (I think four at the moment, but then again I have no idea where the characters decided to take the story in the future). Space Witches –series is a mixture of dystopia, ancient Egypt and sci-fi. And The Death of a Vampire tells about… well, not quite sure yet as I am pantsing the story. That is a fun way to write as I have no idea where the story will take me.</div>
<div class="x_ydpca2ca25fMsoNormal">

<div class="x_ydpca2ca25fMsoNormal">
But it was Mr. Mummific who really made a childhood dream come true. I studied Egyptology at the University of Manchester for five years and put up a website <a href="http://www.ancientegypt101.com/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">www.ancientegypt101.com</a> so I would need to keep on researching. During my studies I had to write many essays and one evening I sat there on the sofa, taking a break and doodled on my sketch pad. A little mummy man appeared on paper and he looked so funny I developed him further. I decided to let him tell his version of all things ancient Egypt of my website, and he sure did. People chuckled on his take on life (modern and ancient) and he drew the attention of the director of the American University in Cairo Press. He wrote to me asking if Mr. Mummific would write a book for them – their very first children’s book. Mr. Mummific graciously allowed me to be his scribe and illustrator. And as my biggest dream as a child was to write and illustrate children’s books, I suddenly had a chance to fulfil that dream. Mr. Mummific has now published two books (“How I Became a Mummy” and “Mummies, Monsters and the Ship of Millions”).</div>
<div class="x_ydpca2ca25fMsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="x_ydpca2ca25fMsoNormal">
I got the chance to write a third illustrated children’s book as well. “Tutankhamun in My Own Hieroglyphs” travels now around the world with the KING TUT: Treasures of the Golden Pharaoh –exhibition. Ten cities around the world.</div>
<div class="x_ydpca2ca25fMsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="x_ydpca2ca25fMsoNormal">
As to what inspired me… Well, stories. Imagination. Adventure. How stories can draw your mind into completely different worlds, make you feel emotions and see in your mind’s eye as if you were there inside the story. The book that had the biggest impact on me was The Lord of the Rings – I read it when my mother recommended it to me when I was 10 or 11. The first part (The Fellowship of the Ring) was on loan at the local library so I started reading it from book two (The Two Towers). Also Silmarillion, Hobbit, and other books by Tolkien really taught me what imagination can create – and that adults could write fantasy and be respected authors.</div>
<div class="x_ydpca2ca25fMsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="x_ydpca2ca25fMsoNormal">
I have often wondered where would I go if time travel would really be possible. Now of course ancient Egypt, but which era… Would I go to Ahkenaten’s court to see what really happened to them? Or maybe check of Hatshepsut to see how the female king ruled her country. Or would I go to the time of the Ptolemys and see how the Library of Alexandria was destroyed? (Ok not that, I could not bear to see that.)</div>
<div class="x_ydpca2ca25fMsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="x_ydpca2ca25fMsoNormal">
It is interesting to see how science searches for possibilities for time travel. What kind of ethical problems would time travel cause? Could we really affect our own future by traveling to the past? Or go and have a peek at our life in the future? (Could we even be simultaneously “twice” at a given time?) Are there worm holes that break the fabric of time and allow us to see different ages of human kind? And if the moment came when it was really possible to travel through time – would I have the courage? What we know of past eras can be pitifully wrong – after all history books can be biased and there can be undercurrents we really don’t know about and we could end up in the middle of trouble. How could we manage with our modern concept of morale and equality? How could we make ourselves understood? Language does develop with time, after all.</div>

Hi, I'm Julius the Jules, the professional musician and amateur theoretician with autism. Time travel has always been one of my main interests ever since I was a small child. I have had night time dreams in REM sleep where they weren't ordinary dreams, but rather real glimpses into the future.</div>
<div dir="auto" style="background-color: white; color: #212121; font-family: wf_segoe-ui_normal, "Segoe UI", "Segoe WP", Tahoma, Arial, sans-serif, serif, EmojiFont; font-size: 15px;">

I have met my future-self on two different occasions. The first one was right after I had sent an email to myself, hoping by then we would have time machines, it was 8 P.M., then all of a sudden, a bunch of blue bolts of electricity were spiraling in-between me and my next door neighbor's house; I then heard my voice call out my name, but it sounded older coming out from the center of the bolt, but I never got to see him/me. The bolts went away as soon as my future-self had called out mine/his name. The second time I met him was in my REM sleep, but I was actually able to see him and exist in the same proximity. We were running from the military for something I had him do when I wrote my letter to him, which I'm not inclined to discuss at the moment.</div>
<div dir="auto" style="background-color: white; color: #212121; font-family: wf_segoe-ui_normal, "Segoe UI", "Segoe WP", Tahoma, Arial, sans-serif, serif, EmojiFont; font-size: 15px;">

But, because I changed my present at the time, I have created an alternate reality, which I can never return to, because the alternate past and that alternate future are no longer connected to this one.</div>
<div dir="auto" style="background-color: white; color: #212121; font-family: wf_segoe-ui_normal, "Segoe UI", "Segoe WP", Tahoma, Arial, sans-serif, serif, EmojiFont; font-size: 15px;">

A thought provoking post from <b><a class="ProfileCard-screennameLink u-linkComplex js-nav" data-aria-label-part="" href="https://twitter.com/_resist_persist" style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; color: #66757f; font-family: "Segoe UI", Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; outline: 0px; text-decoration-line: none !important;"><span class="username u-dir" dir="ltr" style="direction: ltr !important; unicode-bidi: embed;">@<span class="u-linkComplex-target" style="text-decoration-line: underline !important;">_resist_persist</span></span> </a><span style="color: #14171a; font-family: "Segoe UI", Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;"></span></b></div>
<div class="graf graf--p graf-after--figure" id="f99f" name="f99f" style="--baseline-multiplier: 0.17; background-color: white; color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.84); font-family: medium-content-serif-font, Georgia, Cambria, "Times New Roman", Times, serif; font-size: 21px; letter-spacing: -0.003em; line-height: 1.58; margin-top: 38px;">
This is the question: You have a time machine. You can go back to one breakup. What would you do differently?</div>
<div class="graf graf--p graf-after--p" id="cedb" name="cedb" style="--baseline-multiplier: 0.17; background-color: white; color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.84); font-family: medium-content-serif-font, Georgia, Cambria, "Times New Roman", Times, serif; font-size: 21px; letter-spacing: -0.003em; line-height: 1.58; margin-top: 29px;">
It’s interesting to consider what we might do with a time machine because we spend most of our lives inside the time machine in our heads. We come up with snappy retorts or witty conversation. We practice speeches and breakups and how to ask for that promotion or raise. We replay our relationships and give them different endings. We change our lives.</div>
<div class="graf graf--p graf-after--p" id="9574" name="9574" style="--baseline-multiplier: 0.17; background-color: white; color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.84); font-family: medium-content-serif-font, Georgia, Cambria, "Times New Roman", Times, serif; font-size: 21px; letter-spacing: -0.003em; line-height: 1.58; margin-top: 29px;">
Only in our heads, of course, because out here everything has already played out the way that it did, and all we can do is move forward.</div>
<div class="graf graf--p graf-after--p" id="0732" name="0732" style="--baseline-multiplier: 0.17; background-color: white; color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.84); font-family: medium-content-serif-font, Georgia, Cambria, "Times New Roman", Times, serif; font-size: 21px; letter-spacing: -0.003em; line-height: 1.58; margin-top: 29px;">
But it still poses an interesting line of thought simply because if we examine what we might do differently in the past, we might reveal a few things about our present. And beyond that we may have more insight into the choices we should make in the future. It can yield an incredible wealth of information, if we’re just willing to go deep into the question to see.</div>
<div class="graf graf--p graf-after--p" id="190b" name="190b" style="--baseline-multiplier: 0.17; background-color: white; color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.84); font-family: medium-content-serif-font, Georgia, Cambria, "Times New Roman", Times, serif; font-size: 21px; letter-spacing: -0.003em; line-height: 1.58; margin-top: 29px;">
Let’s say I have this time machine. I don’t want to go back before my divorce because I have two beautiful children. I would assume, based purely on fictional suppositions, that with time travel I could threaten their existence with any travel earlier than their birth.</div>
<div class="graf graf--p graf-after--p" id="9c40" name="9c40" style="--baseline-multiplier: 0.17; background-color: white; color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.84); font-family: medium-content-serif-font, Georgia, Cambria, "Times New Roman", Times, serif; font-size: 21px; letter-spacing: -0.003em; line-height: 1.58; margin-top: 29px;">
But that yields the first important piece of insight:<em class="markup--em markup--p-em" style="font-feature-settings: "liga", "salt";"> We have to make peace with the past that made us who we are today. We have to find healing with the difficult experiences that forged us so that we can move forward with some sense of peace.</em></div>
<div class="graf graf--p graf-after--p" id="753f" name="753f" style="--baseline-multiplier: 0.17; background-color: white; color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.84); font-family: medium-content-serif-font, Georgia, Cambria, "Times New Roman", Times, serif; font-size: 21px; letter-spacing: -0.003em; line-height: 1.58; margin-top: 29px;">
Then I look at the next relationship after the divorce, and part of me might want to go back and do something to change the ghosting that happened or go back and stop myself from falling in love with him in the first place, just a couple of short weeks before he’d do his disappearing act. But I feel like I’d waste the trip back in time because he was never going to stay. Not ever. He was always going to want someone else.</div>
<div class="graf graf--p graf-after--p" id="c007" name="c007" style="--baseline-multiplier: 0.17; background-color: white; color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.84); font-family: medium-content-serif-font, Georgia, Cambria, "Times New Roman", Times, serif; font-size: 21px; letter-spacing: -0.003em; line-height: 1.58; margin-top: 29px;">
And that’s the second insight: <em class="markup--em markup--p-em" style="font-feature-settings: "liga", "salt";">There are those we encounter who are never meant to stay. They are simply fellow human beings on a journey that simply intersects with our own. We can’t make them take our path simply by virtue of wanting it, nor can we give up our own. We are simply meant to learn from them. And sometimes to be pushed in the right direction- even if it seems like we’re lost at the time.</em></div>
<div class="graf graf--p graf-after--p" id="1094" name="1094" style="--baseline-multiplier: 0.17; background-color: white; color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.84); font-family: medium-content-serif-font, Georgia, Cambria, "Times New Roman", Times, serif; font-size: 21px; letter-spacing: -0.003em; line-height: 1.58; margin-top: 29px;">
But the next relationship? Would I change something there? I sit with that and wonder. Because that one? It was brutal. I don’t think I’ve ever cried like that in the whole of my life. I didn’t think it would ever stop. Part of me wants to jump in the time machine and go back to that day and fix it. But the truth is that no time machine could fix that either. It would be as wasted as the other trips because I can love him with all of my heart, but I can’t make him be who I thought he was.</div>
<div class="graf graf--p graf-after--p" id="489b" name="489b" style="--baseline-multiplier: 0.17; background-color: white; color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.84); font-family: medium-content-serif-font, Georgia, Cambria, "Times New Roman", Times, serif; font-size: 21px; letter-spacing: -0.003em; line-height: 1.58; margin-top: 29px;">
That’s the third little pearl of wisdom pulled from the ashes: We have to accept what is. <em class="markup--em markup--p-em" style="font-feature-settings: "liga", "salt";">Love is not the only thing that matters in relationships. All the love in the world cannot fix what is irreparably broken or transform someone into something they’re not. We have to find the peace in that, too.</em></div>
<div class="graf graf--p graf-after--p" id="4400" name="4400" style="--baseline-multiplier: 0.17; background-color: white; color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.84); font-family: medium-content-serif-font, Georgia, Cambria, "Times New Roman", Times, serif; font-size: 21px; letter-spacing: -0.003em; line-height: 1.58; margin-top: 29px;">
My time machine sits unused. Maybe there was one person, long before my children, that I might have liked to visit, only to say some things that needed to be said. But we’ve come to where we are, and I think that all of my choices were leading me here. To this place. To these words. To say that we can’t go back. To say that it’s okay to move forward.</div>
<div class="graf graf--p graf-after--p" id="5a9b" name="5a9b" style="--baseline-multiplier: 0.17; background-color: white; color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.84); font-family: medium-content-serif-font, Georgia, Cambria, "Times New Roman", Times, serif; font-size: 21px; letter-spacing: -0.003em; line-height: 1.58; margin-top: 29px;">
Because one day there will be another relationship, and I won’t take it for granted because I have been dragged through so many heartaches. It will make me kinder than I might have been otherwise. It will help me appreciate the beautiful things, no matter how small. I will hold that person close and hold on to the moment while it’s happening so that if it one day ends I will know that I was at least<em class="markup--em markup--p-em" style="font-feature-settings: "liga", "salt";"> present</em> in my life and in my relationship while it was happening. I will be there.</div>
<div class="graf graf--p graf-after--p" id="f5ce" name="f5ce" style="--baseline-multiplier: 0.17; background-color: white; color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.84); font-family: medium-content-serif-font, Georgia, Cambria, "Times New Roman", Times, serif; font-size: 21px; letter-spacing: -0.003em; line-height: 1.58; margin-top: 29px;">
I won’t try to hold on to someone who isn’t meant for me. I won’t make love responsible for fixing every problem. I won’t carry around the weight of what was because it’s made me who I am, which is pretty fantastic if I do say so myself.</div>
<div class="graf graf--p graf-after--p" id="85f9" name="85f9" style="--baseline-multiplier: 0.17; background-color: white; color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.84); font-family: medium-content-serif-font, Georgia, Cambria, "Times New Roman", Times, serif; font-size: 21px; letter-spacing: -0.003em; line-height: 1.58; margin-top: 29px;">
I don’t need a time machine because everything I need to know about those times I know. Anything else would just be a confirmation of what my soul has already affirmed. Instead, I might take that time machine to other moments, the quiet kind we forget because they seem so simple. An hour sitting in a garden or on the shore. A walk on a path in the woods. Sitting under a night sky and seeing a shooting star. Maybe I’ll skip the relationship drama and go there: to a place where the simple things are the best things, and I don’t want to change any of it.</div>
<div class="graf graf--p graf-after--p graf--trailing" id="75dc" name="75dc" style="--baseline-multiplier: 0.17; background-color: white; color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.84); font-family: medium-content-serif-font, Georgia, Cambria, "Times New Roman", Times, serif; font-size: 21px; letter-spacing: -0.003em; line-height: 1.58; margin-top: 29px;">
Or maybe I’ll enjoy this moment, now, the one I’m in. If I do that, I don’t need to go anywhere at all to feel a sense of gratitude.</div>

<div style="font-family: inherit; margin-bottom: 6px;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin-bottom: 6px;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">In my earlier post, (</span><a href="https://yourtimeormine.blogspot.com/2018/06/spacetime-gravitational-fields-srimad.html" style="font-family: inherit;" target="_blank">https://yourtimeormine.blogspot.com/2018/06/spacetime-gravitational-fields-srimad.html</a><span style="font-family: inherit;">), I pointed out how Kakudmi's travels amounting to 116.64 million years could have been the result of traveling at close to the speed of light, or being in the presence of a super-massive object's gravitational field, and in either case, experiencing time-dilation.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
Brahma remarks that while Kakudmi was waiting for the Gandharvan concert to complete, 27 Chatur Yugas had passed on Earth. This gives us additional data to estimate the duration of the concert.</div>
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
Aryabhata & Surya Siddhanta provide us the data for each Chatur Yuga composed of Satya, Treta, Dwapara and Kali, in the 4:3:2:1 ratio, amounting to 4.32 million years.</div>
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
Each Manu's lifetime amounts to 71 Chaturyugas, and 14 such Manus forms a Kalpa or Brahma's day. Brahma's day therefore amounts to 4.32 billion years. A Pralaya includes a Brahma's day and night and a period of silence, and will result in a cosmic annhilation and re-creation.</div>
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
Our best understanding of our current (local) reality says the universe is 13.8 billion years old. Scientists have estimated this after the discoveries of red shift in all galaxies implying expansion in all directions, cosmic microwave background discovered in 1960s implying the Big Bang Singularity, and CMB measurements by space probes.</div>
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
If we assume this Big Bang event to have been the origin of the current universe and therefore the start of a new day of Brahma, then considering Brahma's Day+Night = 8.64 billion years, the period of silence is now 13.8-8.64 = 5.16 billion years. This assumption can be false if the Big Bang were merely a manifestation of the local universe, and we are part of a multi-universe reality.</div>
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
Each Brahma lives for a 100 such Brahma years. We are currently in the 51st year of the current Brahma. A year of Brahma is 3.1104 trillion Earth years, and 50 such years implies 155.52 trillion Earth year since the current Brahma took charge.</div>
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
When our current understanding of science is reconciled to Hindu cosmological models, it implies a cyclical reality of creation and dissolution. While Stephen Hawking had difficulty to express what there was "before the Big Bang" (implying a beginning, and a creator and creation 13.8 billion years ago), Hindu cosmology is quite clear - a pulsating reality with oscillation cycle of Brahma's periodicity.</div>
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
Thus talking about the age of the universe is absurd in Hindu cosmology's concept of Brahman - there is no beginning or end to it, and local realities of yugas, manavataras, kalpa are cyclical. The 13.8 billion year estimate is therefore applicable to the current local (and observed/measured) reality only.</div>
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
And what about the duration of Brahma's concert witnessed by Kakudmi? A day and night of Brahma is 8.64 billion years. A day in ancient Indian time units has 30 muhurtas of 48 minutes each. Thus each Muhurta of Brahma is 288 million years.</div>
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
In 2012, scientists estimated the time for the solar system to go around the Galactic center once, and found it to be around 250 million years. This figure is tantalizingly close to the estimate of Brahma's Muhurta, i.e., a Galactic Year is equal to a Muhurta of Brahma.</div>
<div style="display: inline; font-family: inherit; margin-top: 6px;">
Each minute of Brahma is 6 million Earth years. Kakudmi spent 116.64 million Earth years listening to the Gandharvan concert. Brahma's concert therefore took 116.64/6 = 19 min, 26 seconds in dilated time. By the time the concert was over, the solar system had gone halfway around the Galactic Center!</div>

<b>Source <a href="https://www.facebook.com/raj.vedam.1/posts/10216337103484698" target="_blank">Raj Vedam</a></b></div>
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
Poor Kakudmi. He couldn't find a suitable match for his highly accomplished daughter Revathi, and so off he went with Revathi to ask Brahma the Creator, if he could recommend a groom. On arriving in Brahmaloka, they saw the Creator enjoying the music of the divine musicians, and waited for the Gandharvas to finish their concert. Brahma laughed on hearing Kakudmi's request and said in the interval they were waiting for the music to be done, 27 Chatur Yugas had passed on Earth, and every kingdom and person they knew was dead and long gone. Brahma consoled the desolate Kakudmi and told him to return to Earth, in time for Bhagavan Krishna and Balarama to incarnate on Earth, and that Balarama would be the ideal match for Revathi. Ref: Srimad Bhagavatam 9.3, verses 29-33.</div>
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
Readers can take away various metaphysical meanings from these passages. It is fascinating to read these passages thru the prism of our current understanding of cosmology.</div>
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
A Chatur Yuga has 4 Yugas (Satya, Treta, Dwapara, Kali) in a 4:3:2:1 ratio, equivalent to 1,728,000 + 1,296,000 + 864,000 + 432,000 Earth years, amounting to 4.32 million years. Thus 27 Chatur Yugas involve 116.64 million years.</div>
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
Assuming Kakudumi and his daughter traveled at 99.99999999999999 percent the speed of light, they would have traveled just a couple of years of dilated time with respect to time on Earth, which would have amounted to 116.64 million years.</div>
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
Lets get some scale to appreciate this. Light takes 8 minutes to reach us from the Sun. The center of the Milky Way galaxy is 25,000 light years away. The nearest galaxy to us, Andromeda, is 2.5 million light years away. We are part of a local cluster of galaxies (see the picture, radius of 8 million light years from Earth), and the neighboring Virgo supercluster is 65 million light years away. Several clusters of galaxies form the Laniakea Supercluster of galaxies, approximately within 200 million light years of us.</div>
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
Thus 116.64 million light years would put Kakudmi and Revathi somewhere in the Laniakea Supercluster of galaxies (see the picture below), which is home to our Milky Way galaxy, and 100,000 other galaxies. This was Brahmaloka, or the known universe to the ancient Indians. This is far more than any other civilization could even grasp, even in the 20th century!</div>
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
Lets see this in a different way. Time dilation also occurs in the presence of super-large gravitational fields when compared with a reference. If we assume that Kakudmi and Revathi traveled close to the event horizon of the super-massive Black Hole at the center of our Milky Way galaxy, then too, they would have experience time-dilation with respect to a reference on Earth. I don't have the calculations to show how close they need to be to the event horizon to experience such time-dilation. If the mass of the black hole (4.3 million solar masses) is insufficient, one would have to look for an even larger mass object where such time-dilation could have been possible (see the note below).</div>
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
Were Kakudmi and Revathi time-travellers? We cannot say without more evidence. But Rishi Veda Vyasa who recounted the Srimad Bhagavatam obtained in meditative states, surely had the divine insight to embed many such startling, amazing facts.</div>
<div style="display: inline; font-family: inherit; margin-top: 6px;">
Note: This is just a simplistic reading of SB, which says nothing about the time Kakudmi took to travel - it just talks about the duration of the concert. Working the numbers thus would lead to far greater diameter of Brahmaloka OR an estimate of the entire mass of the universe (Brahman manifested over all creation).</div>

Since <b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Albert Einstein</b> published his <b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Theory of Relativity</b> (the <b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Special Theory </b>in 1905, and the <b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">General Theory </b>in 1916), our understanding of time has changed dramatically, and the traditional Newtonian idea of <a href="http://www.exactlywhatistime.com/absolute-time/" style="background-color: transparent; box-sizing: border-box; color: #06bcf9; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-decoration-line: none;" title="Absolute Time">absolute time </a>and space has been superseded by the notion of time as one dimension of <b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">space-time</b> in special relativity, and of <b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">dynamically curved space-time</b> in general relativity.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #444545; font-family: "Open Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
It was Einstein’s genius to realize that the <b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">speed of light</b> is absolute, invariable and cannot be exceeded (and indeed that the speed of light is actually more fundamental than either time or space). In relativity, time is certainly an integral part of the very fabric of the universe and cannot exist apart from the universe, but, if the speed of light is invariable and absolute, Einstein realized, both space and time must be flexible and relative to accommodate this.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #444545; font-family: "Open Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
Although much of Einstein’s work is often considered “difficult” or “counter-intuitive”, his theories have proved (both in laboratory experiments and in astronomical observations) to be a remarkably accurate model of reality, indeed much more accurate than Newtonian physics, and applicable in a much wider range of circumstances and conditions.</div>
<h5 style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #00a0c0; font-family: "Open Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 1.5; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">
Space-Time</h5>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #444545; font-family: "Open Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
One aspect of Einstein’s Special Theory of Relativity is that we now understand that space and time are merged inextricably into four-dimensional <b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">space-time</b>, rather than the three dimensions of space and a totally separate time dimension envisaged by <b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Descartes</b> in the 17<span style="box-sizing: border-box; font-size: 10.5px; line-height: 0; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; position: relative; top: -0.5em; vertical-align: baseline;">th</span> Century and taken for granted by all classical physicists after him. With this insight, time effectively becomes just part of a coordinate specifying an object’s position in space-time.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #444545; font-family: "Open Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
It was<b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;"> Hermann Minkowski</b>,<b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;"> </b>Einstein’s one-time teacher and colleague, who gave us the classic interpretation of Einstein’s Special Theory of Relativity. Minkowski introduced the relativity concept of <b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">proper time</b>, the actual elapsed time between two events as measured by a clock that passes through both events. Proper time therefore depends not only on the events themselves but also on the motion of the clock between the events. By contrast, what Minkowski called <b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">coordinate time</b> is the apparent time between two events as measured by a distant observer using that observer’s own method of assigning a time to an event.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #444545; font-family: "Open Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
An <b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">event</b> is both a place and a time, and can be represented by a particular point in space-time, i.e. a point in space at a particular moment in time. Space-time as a whole can therefore be thought of as a collection of an infinite number of events. The complete history of a particular point in space is represented by a line in space-time (known as a <b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">world line</b>), and the past, present and future accessible to a particular object at a particular time can be represented by a three dimensional <b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">light cone</b> (or <b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Minkowski space-time diagram</b>), which is defined by the limiting value of the speed of light, which intersects at the here-and-now, and through which the object’s world line runs its course.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #444545; font-family: "Open Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
Modern physicists therefore do not regard time as “passing” or “flowing” in the old-fashioned sense, nor is time just a sequence of events which happen: both the past and the future are simply “there”, laid out as part of four-dimensional space-time, some of which we have already visited and some not yet. So, just as we are accustomed to thinking of all parts of space as existing even if we are not there to experience them, all of time (past, present and future) are also constantly in existence even if we are not able to witness them. Time does not “flow”, then, it just “is”. This view of time is consistent with the philosophical view of <b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">eternalism</b> or the <b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">block universe theory</b> of time (see the section on <a href="http://www.exactlywhatistime.com/modern-philosophy/" style="background-color: transparent; box-sizing: border-box; color: #06bcf9; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-decoration-line: none;" title="Modern Philosophy">Modern Philosophy</a>).</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #444545; font-family: "Open Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
According to relativity, the perception of a “now”, and particularly of a “now” that moves along in time so that time appears to “flow”, therefore arises purely as a result of human consciousness and the way our brains are wired, perhaps as an evolutionary tool to help us deal with the world around us, even if it does not actually reflect the reality. As Einstein himself remarked, “People like us, who believe in physics, know that the distinction between past, present, and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion”.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #444545; font-family: "Open Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
However, if time is a dimension, it does not appear to be the same kind of dimension as the three dimensions of space. For example, we can choose to move through space or not, but our movement through time is inevitable, and happens whether we like it or not. In fact, we do not really move though time at all, at least not in the same way as we move through space. Also, space does not have any fundamental <b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">directionality</b> (i.e. there is no “arrow of space”, other than the downward pull of gravity, which is actually variable in absolute terms, depending on where on Earth we are located, or whether we are out in space with no gravitational effects at all), whereas time clearly does (see the section on <a href="http://www.exactlywhatistime.com/the-arrow-of-time/" style="background-color: transparent; box-sizing: border-box; color: #06bcf9; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-decoration-line: none;" title="The Arrow of Time">The Arrow of Time</a>).</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #444545; font-family: "Open Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
With the General Theory of Relativity, the concept of space-time was further refined, when Einstein realized that perhaps <b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">gravity</b> is not a field or force on top of space-time, but a feature of space-time itself. Thus, the space-time continuum is actually warped and curved by mass and energy, a warping that we think of as gravity, resulting in a <b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">dynamically curved space-time</b>. In regions of very large masses, such as stars and black holes, space-time is bent or warped substantially by the extreme gravity of the masses, an idea often illustrated by the image of a rubber sheet distorted by the weight of a bowling ball.</div>
<h5 style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #00a0c0; font-family: "Open Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 1.5; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">
Time Dilation</h5>
<figure class="wp-caption alignright" id="attachment_529" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #444545; display: inline; float: right; font-family: "Open Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin: 0px 0px 1.1em 1.5em; max-width: 100%; padding: 0px; text-align: center; width: 300px;"><img alt="Relativity" class="size-full wp-image-529" height="221" src="http://www.exactlywhatistime.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/theory_of_relativity.jpg" style="border: 0px; box-sizing: border-box; display: block; height: auto; margin: 0px auto; max-width: 100%; padding: 0px;" width="300" /><figcaption class="wp-caption-text" style="box-sizing: border-box; color: #666666; font-size: 0.9em; margin: 0.8075em 0px; padding: 0px;">Time dilation is just one consequence of the Theory of Relativity and curved space-time</figcaption></figure><div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #444545; font-family: "Open Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
Also as a result of Einstein’s work and his Special Theory of Relativity, we now know that rates of time actually run differently depending on <b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">relative motion</b>, so that time effectively passes at different rates for different observers travelling at different speeds, an effect known as <b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">time dilation</b>. Thus, two synchronized clocks will not necessarily stay synchronized if they move relative to each other. There is a related effect in the spatial dimensions, known as <b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">length contraction</b>, whereby moving bodies are actually foreshortened in the direction of their travel.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #444545; font-family: "Open Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
Time dilation (as well as the associated length contraction) is negligible and all but imperceptible at everyday speeds in the world around us, although it can be, and has been, measured with very sensitive instruments. However, it becomes much more pronounced as an object’s speed approaches the speed of light (known as <b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">relativistic speeds</b>). If a spaceship could travel at, say, 99% of the speed of light, a hypothetical observer looking in would see the ship’s clock moving about twice as slow as normal (i.e. coordinate time is moving twice as slow as proper time), and the astronauts inside moving around apparently in slow-motion. At 99.5% of the speed of light, the observer would see the clock moving about 10 times slower than normal. At 99.9% of the speed of light, the factor becomes about 22 times, at 99.99% 224 times, and at 99.9999% 707 times, increasing exponentially. In the largest particle accelerators currently in use we can make time slow down by 100,000 times. At the speed of light itself, were it actually possible to achieve that, time would stop completely.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #444545; font-family: "Open Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
Perhaps the easiest way to think of this difficult concept is that, when an object or person moves in space-time, its movement “shares” some of its spatial movement with movement in time, in the same way as some northward movement is shared with westward movement when we travel northwest. What forces this sharing of dimensions is the invariant nature of the <b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">speed of light</b> (slightly less than 300,000km/s), which is a fundamental constant of the universe that can never be exceeded. Thus, the slowing of time at relativistic speeds occurs, in a sense, to “protect” the inviolable cosmic speed limit (the speed of light).</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #444545; font-family: "Open Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
It should be noted that, although a spaceship travelling at close to the speed of light would take 100,000 years to reach a distant star 100,000 light years away as judged by clocks on Earth, the astronaut in the spaceship might hardly age at all as he travels across the galaxy. This characteristic of relativistic time has therefore spawned much discussion of the possibility of <b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">time travel</b> (see the separate section on <a href="http://www.exactlywhatistime.com/time-travel/" style="background-color: transparent; box-sizing: border-box; color: #06bcf9; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-decoration-line: none;" title="Time Travel">Time Travel</a>).</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #444545; font-family: "Open Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
According to Einstein, then, time is relative to the observer, and more specifically to the motion of that observer. This is not to say that time is in some way capricious or random in nature – it is still governed by the laws of physics and entirely predictable in its manifestations, it is just not absolute and universal as Newton thought (see the section on <a href="http://www.exactlywhatistime.com/absolute-time/" style="background-color: transparent; box-sizing: border-box; color: #06bcf9; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-decoration-line: none;" title="Absolute Time">Absolute Time</a>), and things are not quite as simple and straightforward as he had believed. Some commentators, like the Christian philosopher <b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">William Lane Craig</b>, have suggested that there may be a need to distinguish between the <b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">reality</b>of time and our <b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">measurement </b>of time: according to this line of thinking (which, it should be mentioned, is not a mainstream position in physics), time itself MAY be absolute, but the way we measure it must be relativistic.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #444545; font-family: "Open Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
One casualty of the Theory of Relativity is the notion of <b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">simultaneity</b>, the property of two events happening at the same time in a particular frame of reference. According to relativistic physics, simultaneity is NOT an absolute property between events, as had always been taken for granted up to that point. Thus, what is simultaneous in one frame of reference will not necessarily be simultaneous in another. For objects moving at normal everyday speeds, the effect is small and can generally be ignored (so that simultaneity CAN normally be treated as an absolute property); but when objects approach relativistic speeds (close to the speed of light) with respect to one another, such intuitive relationships can no longer be assumed.</div>
<h5 style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #00a0c0; font-family: "Open Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 1.5; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">
Gravitational Time Dilation</h5>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #444545; font-family: "Open Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
When Einstein extended his Special Theory of Relativity to his General Theory, it became apparent that a similar time dilation effect would also occur in the presence of intense <b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">gravity</b>,<b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;"> </b>an effect usually referred to as<b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;"> gravitational </b><b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">time dilation</b>. It is almost as if gravity is somehow pulling or dragging on time, slowing its passage. The closer an object is to another object, the stronger the pull of gravity between them (according to an inverse-square law first identified by <b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Sir Isaac Newton</b>), and thus the more the time drag.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #444545; font-family: "Open Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
Again, these effects are negligible at the kinds of gravitational differences experienced in everyday life: even though, technically, a person living in a ground floor apartment ages slower than their twin who lives in a top floor apartment of the same building (due to the difference in gravity they experience), the effect might amount to maybe a microsecond over a full lifetime. There is, however, one aspect of modern everyday life where we do experience the effects of gravitational time dilation: it has a noticeable impact on the <b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Global Positioning System</b> (GPS), which many of us now rely on for navigation. The orbiting satellites used by the GPS system experience significantly less gravity than the Earth’s surface, and are also moving very fast, so that the time distortion effects of about 38 microseconds a day have to be specifically factored in or GPS would very quickly begin to accumulate errors.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #444545; font-family: "Open Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
But, just as with a spaceship travelling at near the speed of light, in the extreme gravity at the edges of a <b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">black hole</b>, for example, substantial time differences can become apparent. A black hole spins at close to the speed of light, dragging anything in the vicinity around with it, and the huge gravitational pull of a black hole can bend and warp space-time to a substantial degree. Over the “event horizon” of a black hole – the gravitational point of no return – a hypothetical clock on a spaceship (and indeed the progress of the spaceship itself) would appear from the outside to stop completely due to the infinite time dilation effect. At the <b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">gravitational singularity</b> at the centre of a black hole, gravity and density is infinite, and all the normal rules of physics just break down. Time effectively stops, just as there is no time beyond the singularity of the Big Bang (see the section on <a href="http://www.exactlywhatistime.com/time-and-the-big-bang/" style="background-color: transparent; box-sizing: border-box; color: #06bcf9; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-decoration-line: none;" title="Time and the Big Bang">Time and the Big Bang</a>).</div>
<h5 style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #00a0c0; font-family: "Open Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 1.5; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">
Twins Paradox</h5>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #444545; font-family: "Open Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
The dilation of time also gives rise to the so-called “<b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">twins paradox</b>” or “<b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">clock paradox</b>”, whereby a hypothetical astronaut returns from a near-light speed voyage in space to find his stay-at-home twin many years older than him (as travelling at relativistic high speeds has allowed the astronaut to experience only, say, one year of time, while ten years have elapsed on Earth). Because of the time dilation effect, a clock in the spaceship literally registers a shorter duration for the journey than the clock in mission control on Earth.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #444545; font-family: "Open Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
The real paradox, though, as Einstein explained it, arises from the fact that (because there is no “preferred” <b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">frame of reference</b> in relativity) we could just as easily consider the traveller in the spaceship as the one remaining at rest, while the Earth shoots off and back at close to the speed of light. In that scenario, Einstein argued, one would expect the astronaut to age much more than the inhabitants of the Earth. In fact the “paradox” is explained by <b style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Mach’s Principle</b>: the spaceship is accelerating away at near-light speed from the bulk of the universe, whereas the Earth is not. Hence, it is the spaceship (and its astronaut) that experiences the relativistic time dilation, not the Earth.</div>

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: minion-pro; letter-spacing: 0.01em; line-height: 1.5em; word-wrap: break-word;">
From the time I was a little, I’ve always been envious of good sleepers. I would marvel at the kids who needed nothing more than their trusted sleeping bag on a sleepover to snooze effortlessly. At sleepaway camp, I was floored by how simple it was for my bunkmates to fall into a deep sleep while fellow campers stayed up late chatting loudly and laughing. Me? I would have to wait until every single conversation died down, the flashlights turned off and the rest of my bunk fell asleep to even have a chance at entering REM.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #272727; font-family: p22-underground; word-wrap: break-word;">
As an adult, my sleeping challenges have changed a bit. It’s no longer that I have anxiety about falling asleep, it’s that I have an exhausting time while asleep.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #272727; font-family: p22-underground; word-wrap: break-word;">
On the average night, I will have about four-to-five vivid dreams, rife with stories, experiences, people and emotion. At least three times a week, my dreams include living the day I am about to have. For example, when I fall asleep on a Tuesday night, there is great likelihood I will live out Wednesday while sleeping—starting from my 5:30 workout, coffee run, work meetings and tasks, and so on and so forth. The next day is nothing short of fascinating as I am often living out something I already experienced in my sleep. It is also incredibly confusing as I battle the déjà vu feeling all day long. For instance, I will often start at point C in a discussion with a colleague because in my dream we already talked about points A and B.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #272727; font-family: p22-underground; word-wrap: break-word;">
I have been experiencing this “day ahead” phenomenon for about five years. Sometimes I worry that my brain is never in rest because of this. Consider my husband, for example, who falls asleep the minute his head hits the pillow and doesn’t wake up once—let alone change position—in the middle of the night. I’ll often ask him what he dreams about and he seldom remembers. Sleep to him is peaceful, calming and restorative. Sleep to me can be draining, especially when I am doing my 5:30 workout at 1 am!</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #272727; font-family: p22-underground; word-wrap: break-word;">
But on the other hand, my sleep patterns excite me. They even leave me wondering if I am borderline prophetic.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #272727; font-family: p22-underground; word-wrap: break-word;">
Three years ago, I took my <a href="https://www.gallupstrengthscenter.com/" style="background-color: transparent; border-bottom: 1px solid rgba(181, 214, 96, 0.3); color: #b5d660; padding-bottom: 0.05em; text-decoration-line: none; transition: border-color 0.15s ease-out, color 0.15s ease-out; word-wrap: break-word;">Gallup StrengthsFinder Assessment</a>, a powerful tool for unlocking your dominant strengths. The assessment helps you understand where you are most naturally skilled and talented so you can live a more engaged, empowered life. Gallup states there are 34 strengths that we all embody but that the order our strengths fall is incredibly important. In fact, the odds that you will find someone with the same top five strengths in the same order as you are <a href="http://coaching.gallup.com/2013/08/why-being-one-in-million-really-isnt.html#more" style="background-color: transparent; border-bottom: 1px solid rgba(181, 214, 96, 0.3); color: #b5d660; padding-bottom: 0.05em; text-decoration-line: none; transition: border-color 0.15s ease-out, color 0.15s ease-out; word-wrap: break-word;">one in 33.4 million</a>. That’s how unique you are!</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #272727; font-family: p22-underground; word-wrap: break-word;">
The test revealed that my No. 1 strength is Communication—no surprise to those who know me! What was most interesting, though, is that my No. 2 strength is <a href="http://news.gallup.com/businessjournal/673/futuristic.aspx" style="background-color: transparent; border-bottom: 1px solid rgba(181, 214, 96, 0.3); color: #b5d660; padding-bottom: 0.05em; text-decoration-line: none; transition: border-color 0.15s ease-out, color 0.15s ease-out; word-wrap: break-word;">Futuristic</a>, or being able to peer over the horizon. According to Gallup, people who are Futuristic are utterly fascinated by the future:</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #272727; font-family: p22-underground; word-wrap: break-word;">
<em style="word-wrap: break-word;">“As if it were projected on the wall, you see in detail what the future might hold, and this detailed picture keeps pulling you forward, into tomorrow... You are a dreamer who sees visions of what could be and who cherishes those visions. When the present proves too frustrating and the people around you too pragmatic, you conjure up your visions of the future and they energize you. They can energize others, too. In fact, very often people look to you to describe your visions of the future. They want a picture that can raise their sights and thereby their spirits. You can paint it for them.”</em></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #272727; font-family: p22-underground; word-wrap: break-word;">
Upon reading this, my dreaming patterns made perfect sense! I am living out my days before they happen because I get my energy from spending time in the future. I am a time-traveler, ever fascinated by what <em style="word-wrap: break-word;">could be</em> rather than <em style="word-wrap: break-word;">what is</em>.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #272727; font-family: p22-underground; word-wrap: break-word;">
Earlier this year, we brought in the dynamic and powerful Katie McDonald, self-care strategist and founder of <a href="http://bnourished.com/" style="background-color: transparent; border-bottom: 1px solid rgba(181, 214, 96, 0.3); color: #b5d660; padding-bottom: 0.05em; text-decoration-line: none; transition: border-color 0.15s ease-out, color 0.15s ease-out; word-wrap: break-word;">bnourished</a>, to speak with us at our Women in Leadership Nexus event. Katie shared so many <a href="https://www.wilnexus.com/blog/2018/2/9/with-kindess-to-your-future-self" style="background-color: transparent; border-bottom: 1px solid rgba(181, 214, 96, 0.3); color: #b5d660; padding-bottom: 0.05em; text-decoration-line: none; transition: border-color 0.15s ease-out, color 0.15s ease-out; word-wrap: break-word;">poignant lessons</a> with us, but namely the fact that we need to spend more time with our future self. She encouraged us to talk with her often and to make decisions every single day that are in service to her and where she desires to be. (My favorite way to apply this on the most basic of levels is to ask my wise future self if she wants that second glass of wine; she never does!)</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #272727; font-family: p22-underground; word-wrap: break-word;">
When I think about these two concepts together—spending time in the future and consulting with my future self—I see the inherent connection between futuristic tendencies and transformative leaders. In fact, the leaders who can spend more time looking ahead than looking backwards will catapult their organizations and teams forward at greater speed.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #272727; font-family: p22-underground; word-wrap: break-word;">
As leaders, our teams look to us for the answers, vision and perspectives for what they can’t yet see. They want us to dream wildly, pursue fearlessly and show them how they can shape and expand the vision. They don’t want us to spend too much time in the here and now, or dwelling in the past. Rather, they are counting on us to steer the bus and bring them to unbelievable opportunity.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #272727; font-family: p22-underground; word-wrap: break-word;">
We all have Futuristic in our makeup, says Gallup… we just might not have it in our top five. But we can actively work on this muscle and strengthen it over time. Consider the following:</div>
<br />
<ul dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; color: #272727; font-family: p22-underground; word-wrap: break-word;">
<li style="word-wrap: break-word;"><strong style="word-wrap: break-word;">Visualize what the future looks, feels, sounds and operates like</strong>. Free your mind to conjure up any image—no matter how outlandish! When we actively engage our mind to visualize the future, we start to get more comfortable seeing it.</li>
</ul>
<ul dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; color: #272727; font-family: p22-underground; word-wrap: break-word;">
<li style="word-wrap: break-word;">I’ve long believed the <strong style="word-wrap: break-word;">universe sends us signs</strong> about what we are supposed to do next, where we should head, how we should evolve. It’s our job to listen and see what the universe puts in front of us. This is how we start to become more visionary and evolutionary.</li>
</ul>
<ul dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; color: #272727; font-family: p22-underground; word-wrap: break-word;">
<li style="word-wrap: break-word;"><strong style="word-wrap: break-word;">Honor the past</strong> but keep a keen eye on the future. Though it’s incredibly important to pay homage to and visit with our past, it’s even more important to see around the bend. It can feel scary and ungrounded, but our future holds the greatest potential for us.</li>
</ul>
<ul dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; color: #272727; font-family: p22-underground; word-wrap: break-word;">
<li style="word-wrap: break-word;">The beauty of the future is that because it hasn’t yet happened, it can’t be right or wrong. It can only <strong style="word-wrap: break-word;">be the dream and promise of what tomorrow can bring</strong>.</li>
</ul>
<br />
<div style="background-color: white; color: #272727; font-family: p22-underground; word-wrap: break-word;">
I’ve always loved this quote by Elanor Roosevelt: “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #272727; font-family: p22-underground; word-wrap: break-word;">
We all have the power to achieve the extraordinary, to try something daring and to manifest our own realities. And spending time in the future allows us to inch closer to something greater. So try it yourself!</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #272727; font-family: p22-underground; word-wrap: break-word;">
Start checking in with your future self. Engage with you dreams. And celebrate the beauty and power in time travel.</div>

<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: inherit; color: #404040; font-family: "Merriweather Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 1.75em;">
In order to make time-travel possible, the speed of light has to be exceeded which is approximately <span style="box-sizing: inherit; font-weight: 700;">300,000 km/s</span>.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: inherit; color: #404040; font-family: "Merriweather Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 1.75em;">
Such speed would clearly require a tremendous amount of energy.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: inherit; color: #404040; font-family: "Merriweather Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 1.75em;">

<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: inherit; color: #404040; font-family: "Merriweather Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 1.75em;">
In fact it’s impossible according to Special relativity, which says nothing can exceed the speed of light if started slower than it. Chances are only if there exists an inherently faster-than-light particle (<i style="box-sizing: inherit;">Tachyon</i>), which is just a hypothesis.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: inherit; color: #404040; font-family: "Merriweather Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 1.75em;">
But there’s a whole new way of experiencing time travel that most of us aren’t aware of. To do that we don’t have to chase light but rather use it.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: inherit; color: #404040; font-family: "Merriweather Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 1.75em;">
All you need is to<em style="box-sizing: inherit;"> look up.</em> If you’re used to gaze at night sky as if it is happening now, you’re wrong.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: inherit; color: #404040; font-family: "Merriweather Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 1.75em;">
The stars will appear instantaneous to you only if the speed of light is infinite. But the speed of light is<span style="box-sizing: inherit; font-weight: 700;"> finite</span>. So it takes time for the star’s light to reach us.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: inherit; color: #404040; font-family: "Merriweather Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 1.75em;">
For example, it takes 8 minutes for the light from sun to reach us, which means we see sun only how it was 8 minutes ago.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: inherit; color: #404040; font-family: "Merriweather Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 1.75em;">
All the stars appear as how they were a time ago, not how they are now.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: inherit; color: #404040; font-family: "Merriweather Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 1.75em;">
<img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1788" data-attachment-id="1788" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-description="" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"0","credit":"","camera":"","caption":"","created_timestamp":"0","copyright":"","focal_length":"0","iso":"0","shutter_speed":"0","title":"","orientation":"1"}" data-image-title="pexels-photo-631477" data-large-file="https://tesla36.files.wordpress.com/2018/06/pexels-photo-631477.jpg?w=739?w=739" data-medium-file="https://tesla36.files.wordpress.com/2018/06/pexels-photo-631477.jpg?w=739?w=300" data-orig-file="https://tesla36.files.wordpress.com/2018/06/pexels-photo-631477.jpg?w=739" data-orig-size="1880,1254" data-permalink="https://tesla36.wordpress.com/2018/06/07/experience-time-travel-with-light/pexels-photo-631477/" sizes="(max-width: 739px) 100vw, 739px" src="https://tesla36.files.wordpress.com/2018/06/pexels-photo-631477.jpg?w=739" srcset="https://tesla36.files.wordpress.com/2018/06/pexels-photo-631477.jpg?w=739 739w, https://tesla36.files.wordpress.com/2018/06/pexels-photo-631477.jpg?w=1478 1478w, https://tesla36.files.wordpress.com/2018/06/pexels-photo-631477.jpg?w=150 150w, https://tesla36.files.wordpress.com/2018/06/pexels-photo-631477.jpg?w=300 300w, https://tesla36.files.wordpress.com/2018/06/pexels-photo-631477.jpg?w=768 768w, https://tesla36.files.wordpress.com/2018/06/pexels-photo-631477.jpg?w=1024 1024w" style="border: 0px; box-sizing: inherit; height: auto; max-width: 100%;" /></div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: inherit; color: #404040; font-family: "Merriweather Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 1.75em;">
If you spot a shooting star, it has already fallen probably a thousand years ago, and the moment you see it is indeed a form of time travel.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: inherit; color: #404040; font-family: "Merriweather Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 1.75em;">
These delay in lights (including the nearest moon which lies one-second in the past), depends on distance between the star and earth, calculated in <em style="box-sizing: inherit;">light years</em>. If a star is 100 light years away – you are looking 100 years straight back in time.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: inherit; color: #404040; font-family: "Merriweather Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 1.75em;">
But even that is a small number. An unaided eye is capable of seeing distant star as far as 4000 light years away (in the constellation<em style="box-sizing: inherit;"> Cassiopeia</em>).</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: inherit; color: #404040; font-family: "Merriweather Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 1.75em;">
And how did you think scientists confirmed Big-bang theory as the origin of universe without traveling back in time?</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: inherit; color: #404040; font-family: "Merriweather Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 1.75em;">
Of course – they looked up in the sky. Using special telescopes, they were able to map the oldest light in the universe, <em style="box-sizing: inherit;"><span style="box-sizing: inherit; font-weight: 700;">Cosmic Microwave Background </span> </em></div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: inherit; color: #404040; font-family: "Merriweather Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 1.75em;">

<span style="background-color: white; color: #413f41; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 1.08333em;"><br /></span>
<span style="background-color: white; color: #413f41; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 1.08333em;">Google Maps Street View in 2014 gave us a way to travel through time.</span><br />
<div style="-webkit-margin-after: 1em; -webkit-margin-before: 1em; background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #413f41; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 1.08333em; line-height: 1.38462em; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-top: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Street View has always offered time travel of a sort: Its images show the past. But now Street View can display multiple pictures of a place taken over a span of years.</div>
<div style="-webkit-margin-after: 1em; -webkit-margin-before: 1em; background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #413f41; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 1.08333em; line-height: 1.38462em; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-top: 1em; padding: 0px;">
"Starting today, you can travel to the past to see how a place has changed over the years by exploring Street View imagery in Google Maps for desktop," said Vinay Shet, Google Street View product manager, in <a href="http://google-latlong.blogspot.com/2014/04/go-back-in-time-with-street-view.html" style="color: #043464; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" target="_blank">a blog post</a>. "We've gathered historical imagery from past Street View collections dating back to 2007 to create this digital time capsule of the world."</div>
<div style="-webkit-margin-after: 1em; -webkit-margin-before: 1em; background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #413f41; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 1.08333em; line-height: 1.38462em; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-top: 1em; padding: 0px;">
If you could actually travel to the past, your view of Street View would be different. Were you to travel back to 2007, for example, you might watch a Google Street View car drive past, unaware that it was capturing private data from open WiFi access points.</div>
<div style="-webkit-margin-after: 1em; -webkit-margin-before: 1em; background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #413f41; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 1.08333em; line-height: 1.38462em; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-top: 1em; padding: 0px;">
<strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">[Google plans to use drones to bring the Internet to remote locations. Read <a href="http://www.informationweek.com/mobile/mobile-devices/google-has-plans-for-titan-drones/d/d-id/1204456?itc=edit_in_body_cross" style="color: #043464; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" target="_blank">Google Has Plans For Titan Drones</a>.]</strong></div>
<div style="-webkit-margin-after: 1em; -webkit-margin-before: 1em; background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #413f41; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 1.08333em; line-height: 1.38462em; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-top: 1em; padding: 0px;">
A visit to 2008 would take you a time when the US Defense Department banned Street View cars from military bases as a matter of operational safety. Photography during this period was often assumed by authorities to be a precursor to terrorism. That was the year London's Metropolitan Police launched a <a href="http://content.met.police.uk/cs/Satellite?blobcol=urldata&blobheadername1=Content-Type&blobheadername2=Content-Disposition&blobheadervalue1=application%2Fpdf&blobheadervalue2=inline%3B+filename%3D%22982%2F176%2Fct_camera_2008.pdf%22&blobkey=id&blobtable=MungoBlobs&blobwhere=1283526954167&ssbinary=true" style="color: #043464; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" target="_blank">counter-terrorism campaign</a> warning citizens to watch for "odd" photographers. It was also the year Google began testing a way to blur the faces of people in Street View images.</div>
<div style="-webkit-margin-after: 1em; -webkit-margin-before: 1em; background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #413f41; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 1.08333em; line-height: 1.38462em; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-top: 1em; padding: 0px;">
In 2009, you might find Google <a href="http://googlepolicyeurope.blogspot.com/2009/03/street-view-and-child-safety.html" style="color: #043464; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" target="_blank">scrambling to correct sensationalistic claims</a>that its Street View cars had photographed a naked toddler, or wondering why the residents in the Buckinghamshire village of Broughton in the UK refused to allow a Street View car to enter town.</div>
<div style="-webkit-margin-after: 1em; -webkit-margin-before: 1em; background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #413f41; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 1.08333em; line-height: 1.38462em; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-top: 1em; padding: 0px;">
That same year, in Greece and Switzerland, Street View cars were briefly banned until Google could reassure officials that adequate privacy protections were in place. And Google had to reshoot some of its Street View imagery in Japan because the roof-mounted cameras on its cars could see into people's backyards.</div>
<div style="-webkit-margin-after: 1em; -webkit-margin-before: 1em; background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #413f41; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 1.08333em; line-height: 1.38462em; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-top: 1em; padding: 0px;">
But as you move closer to the present, the controversies diminish. You'd see Google settling the Street View privacy litigation. You'd see the world grow weary of fighting for privacy rights that governments ignore while telling others to observe. You'd see people getting over their fears and realizing just how useful Street View can be.</div>
<div style="-webkit-margin-after: 1em; -webkit-margin-before: 1em; background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #413f41; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 1.08333em; line-height: 1.38462em; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-top: 1em; padding: 0px;">
<img src="https://img.deusm.com/informationweek/2014/04/1234818/streetview.png" /></div>
<div style="-webkit-margin-after: 1em; -webkit-margin-before: 1em; background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #413f41; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 1.08333em; line-height: 1.38462em; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-top: 1em; padding: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="-webkit-margin-after: 1em; -webkit-margin-before: 1em; background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #413f41; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 1.08333em; line-height: 1.38462em; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-top: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Street View's temporal scope is limited by the number of Street View car visits since the service launched, which in many cases is only two or three. Even so, the ability to access a time-lapse view of a place can be useful from a historical perspective. If you travel back in time from the 2013 default Street View image of this street in San Francisco to the image taken in April 2011, you can see how things looked before a mural was added to the wall on the left.</div>
<div style="-webkit-margin-after: 1em; -webkit-margin-before: 1em; background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #413f41; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 1.08333em; line-height: 1.38462em; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-top: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Just imagine how interesting Street View time travel will be after a few more decades of data.<br />

Time travel has always been a popular subject for science fiction writers. From H G Wells’, The Time Machine, to Looper and Minority Report, the concept of being able to alter the future by making a small change in the past is a familiar theme.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #0b0c0c; font-family: nta, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 19px; margin-bottom: 30px; margin-top: 5px;">
<a href="https://companieshouse.blog.gov.uk/2018/06/07/time-for-change/time-blog-gov-uk/" rel="attachment wp-att-3248" style="-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.3); color: #2e3191;"><img alt="Cartoon image of the future with flying cars." class="alignnone size-large wp-image-3248" height="410" sizes="(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px" src="https://companieshouse.blog.gov.uk/wp-content/uploads/sites/148/2018/06/Time-Blog-Gov.UK_-620x410.jpg" srcset="https://companieshouse.blog.gov.uk/wp-content/uploads/sites/148/2018/06/Time-Blog-Gov.UK_.jpg 620w, https://companieshouse.blog.gov.uk/wp-content/uploads/sites/148/2018/06/Time-Blog-Gov.UK_-310x205.jpg 310w" style="border: 1px solid rgb(191, 193, 195); display: block; height: auto; max-width: 100%; vertical-align: middle;" width="620" /></a></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #0b0c0c; font-family: nta, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 19px; margin-bottom: 30px; margin-top: 5px;">
Wouldn’t it be great if you could go back and change a mistake you made in your earlier life, or see how your parents met or visit a historic moment in time? But, you need to be careful as travelling to the past brings the problem of a temporal paradox. Take Back to the Future, as an example. Marty travels back in time and, in one scene, prevents his parents from meeting. And if they don’t meet, how can he exist to go back in time?</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #0b0c0c; font-family: nta, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 19px; margin-bottom: 30px; margin-top: 5px;">
Another excellent film which covers a similar topic, is The Butterfly Effect. The central character has the ability to travel back in time to inhabit the body of his younger self, and make changes which alter the future. But, with unintended consequences.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #0b0c0c; font-family: nta, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 19px; margin-bottom: 30px; margin-top: 5px;">
Travelling to the past would seem to be the easier concept to visualise, as recreating a historic scene can be based on archive photos or films. But, creating a futuristic city means trying to imagine or envisage what the world of tomorrow might look like and, to some extent, predict the future.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #0b0c0c; font-family: nta, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 19px; margin-bottom: 30px; margin-top: 5px;">
It’s interesting to see how some films have got this right, and where others have not been so successful.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #0b0c0c; font-family: nta, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 19px; margin-bottom: 30px; margin-top: 5px;">
Back to the Future was based in 1985 and took us 30 years into the future to 2015. There were flying cars, flat screen voice-operated televisions, self-drying clothing and hoverboards. Total Recall and I Robot both predicted automated cars, which are being trialled at the present.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #0b0c0c; font-family: nta, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 19px; margin-bottom: 30px; margin-top: 5px;">
Stanley Kubrick's <a href="https://companieshouse.blog.gov.uk/2018/05/18/2001-a-book-publishing-odyssey/" rel="noopener" style="-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.3); color: #2e3191;" target="_blank">2001: A Space Odyssey</a> gave us the first example of a tablet computer. There's a scene in the 1968 classic, in which a pair of astronauts can be seen using tablet computers while eating breakfast. The iPad debuted in 2010, just 9 years after the setting of A Space Odyssey.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #0b0c0c; font-family: nta, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 19px; margin-bottom: 30px; margin-top: 5px;">
Everyone these days has a smartphone which, to some extent, was predicted in the original Star Trek series with Captain Kirk’s use of the communicator; “Beam me up, Scotty” (the exact phrase was never actually spoken in any Star Trek television episode or film).</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #0b0c0c; font-family: nta, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 19px; margin-bottom: 30px; margin-top: 5px;">
But, even more impressive was Star Trek writer David Gerrolds, 1999 accurate prophecy:</div>
<blockquote style="background-color: white; color: #0b0c0c; font-family: nta, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 19px; margin: 0px 0px 30px;">
<div style="margin-top: 5px; padding-left: 30px;">
The size will be determined by what’s convenient to hold, not by the technology inside.</div>
</blockquote>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #0b0c0c; font-family: nta, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 19px; margin-bottom: 30px; margin-top: 5px;">
He further foretold:</div>
<blockquote style="background-color: white; color: #0b0c0c; font-family: nta, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 19px; margin: 0px 0px 30px;">
<div style="margin-top: 5px; padding-left: 30px;">
The box will have a high-res colour screen, a microphone, a plug for a headset or earphones, a camera lens, wireless connectivity, cellphone and beeper functions, a television and radio receiver, a digital recorder, and it will have enough processing power and memory to function as a desktop system.</div>
</blockquote>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #0b0c0c; font-family: nta, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 19px; margin-bottom: 30px; margin-top: 5px;">
So, no flying cars, no time travel. But, the ability to change the future is possible, certainly within Companies House.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #0b0c0c; font-family: nta, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 19px; margin-bottom: 30px; margin-top: 5px;">

<img src="https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DcYYYHvW4AYDohw.jpg:large" /></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #121212; font-family: "Guardian Text Egyptian Web", Georgia, serif; font-size: 17px; font-variant-ligatures: common-ligatures; margin-bottom: 1rem; padding: 0px;">
The time we have at our disposal each day is elastic, Proust claimed. It sounds an odd remark. Surely we have precisely 24 hours, no more and no less. Even the occasional leap second – introduced to keep calendars accurate – hardly changes the fixed time we have every day on Earth.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #121212; font-family: "Guardian Text Egyptian Web", Georgia, serif; font-size: 17px; font-variant-ligatures: common-ligatures; margin-bottom: 1rem; padding: 0px;">
But as Claudia Hammond, presenter of Radio 4's <em style="background: transparent; border-bottom: 0.0625rem solid rgb(220, 220, 220); color: #6b5840; cursor: pointer; text-decoration-line: none !important; touch-action: manipulation; transition: border-color 0.15s ease-out;">All in the Mind</em><span style="color: #6b5840;"><span style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; border-bottom: 0.0625rem solid rgb(220, 220, 220); cursor: pointer; touch-action: manipulation; transition: border-color 0.15s ease-out;">, argues in this lively account of our perception of time, our experiences of passing minutes differ greatly according to circumstances. "A watched pot never seems to boil, but go and check your emails and it will be boiling over before you know it."</span></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #121212; font-family: "Guardian Text Egyptian Web", Georgia, serif; font-size: 17px; font-variant-ligatures: common-ligatures; margin-bottom: 1rem; padding: 0px;">
And you know what she means: that moron moment when you realise you have locked yourself out of your hired car, with your keys inside its boot, seems to stop time in its tracks while the most pleasurable experiences race by at light speed. Much has to do with the event being experienced. However, your mood, health and attentiveness also affect the rate at which time appears to pass.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #121212; font-family: "Guardian Text Egyptian Web", Georgia, serif; font-size: 17px; font-variant-ligatures: common-ligatures; margin-bottom: 1rem; padding: 0px;">
Consider the fate of innocent test subjects who were tricked into believing no one on their psychology experiment liked them. Asked to estimate the passage of a minute, they reported times that were far longer than test subjects who had been told people liked them. Suffer rejection and time starts to drag, in short. "Thus the belief that a few strangers dislike you can alter your time perception," concludes Hammond.</div>

Such observations are important because the way we perceive time is crucial to our lives. The intelligibility of spoken language depends on millisecond precision in pronunciation, for example, while the word "time" turns out to be the <span style="color: #6b5840;"><span style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; border-bottom: 0.0625rem solid rgb(220, 220, 220); cursor: pointer; touch-action: manipulation; transition: border-color 0.15s ease-out;">most widely used noun in English</span></span>.</div>

Oddly, however, there appears to be no single part of the brain that measures the passage of hours and minutes, which is just one of the many curiosities about our species' attempts to assess time. Of these paradoxes, the most intriguing – quoted by Hammond in her final chapter – was expressed by Kierkegaard: "Life can only be understood backwards but must be lived forwards."</div>

Conspiracy theory YouTube channel Apex TV has released an eerie video which could be an irrefutable proof of time travel. The video reveals a telephone recording between emergency number 911 and a widowed woman named Cathy. During the call, the woman informs the police that there is someone hiding in her bathroom.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Lato, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 20px; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; letter-spacing: 0.1px; line-height: 28px; margin-bottom: 25px; padding: 0px;">
"I think someone just broke into my house. I heard glass break in the bathroom downstairs. I think someone came in through the window. I am upstairs now, and the door is locked," told Cathy to the 911 respondent.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Lato, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 20px; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; letter-spacing: 0.1px; line-height: 28px; margin-bottom: 25px; padding: 0px;">
The officer who answered Cathy's call then asked her to stay quiet in the upstairs bedroom and advised her never to enter the bathroom. However, Cathy ignored the instructions of the officer and entered the bathroom to know what has happened there.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Lato, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 20px; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; letter-spacing: 0.1px; line-height: 28px; margin-bottom: 25px; padding: 0px;">
Even after repeated requests, Cathy opened the bathroom and saw something mindblowing. In the bathtub, she saw a man lying with blood-tinged everywhere, and interestingly, the man was the younger version of her husband who died in 2001.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Lato, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 20px; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; letter-spacing: 0.1px; line-height: 28px; margin-bottom: 25px; padding: 0px;">
"He's my husband. He died in 2001. But he's not, oh my, oh my God. He's not, he's not, he's not him. But he has the same tattoo. He's younger, he's much younger. Like when we first met. oh my God,'' said Cathy.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Lato, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 20px; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; letter-spacing: 0.1px; line-height: 28px; margin-bottom: 25px; padding: 0px;">
The video of Apex TV has already gone viral on online spaces, and most of the people watched consider this experience as a solid proof of time travel. However, some people argue that this may be the evidence of the existence of a parallel universe.<br />
